This is Kevin Moran’s fifteenth season on the Waterford hurling panel.
The former captain is still enjoying being part of the inter county set-up. “After 2017, I thought we were very close to winning an All Ireland. The two years after that were extremely disappointing and I just didn’t want to end it on that note. I was delighted to be given the opportunity to stay involved with the new management. I feel very fresh. I know I’m 33 now but I feel as good as I’ve felt in the last seven or eight years. It’s extremely enjoyable. I’m delighted to be part of Liam’s plans and giving it a good go over the last twelve months. We’re still there. I feel rejuvenated after a couple of poor seasons.”
The Déise went down by four points to Limerick in the Munster final last Sunday. He feels that they are ready to fight for major honours again. “It was nice, to be honest with you, to be competing in big matches and pushing to try and win silverware again. It just went completely off the radar the last number of years. In that sense it is good. It’s a new team, young players, very hungry, in a happy environment. It was a mixed bag, a bit of pride but a bit of disappointment that we couldn’t finish it off in the last quarter.”
