Gary Hurley has held firm in his bid to secure a tour card for the DP World Tour in 2023 - as he has just one round left to play in the final of Q-School in Tarragona, Spain.

He's currently in the clubhouse in a tie for 16th place after a round of 71, and will guarantee his place on the DP World Tour next season should he find himself in the top 25 come the close of play tomorrow afternoon.

The Aglish man had a shaky start to his fifth round having carded two 70s and two 65s heading into today - as he bogeyed two of his opening four holes to flirt with falling out of the coveted top 25.

Credit to Hurley, he showed resilience to battle back on the Lakes Course, making the turn at level par having carded birdies at par-3 7th and par-4 8th to move back to his starting point of -16.

Hurley has talked about fine-tuning his mentality in recent weeks, and his mettle proved prominent once more as he started to pick up shots on his back nine.

Another birdie at the par-fourth tenth saw Gary into the red for the first time all afternoon, and he followed that up with another birdie, his 27th of the week, at the par-4 twelfth, a hole he had dropped a shot on earlier this week, to move to -18 and into a tie for ninth.

Three consecutive pars were welcome from the thirteenth to the fifteenth, and having birdied the 16th on both the Lakes Course and the Hills Course on every round - the opportunity was there to give himself further breathing room with just two holes to play of his fifth round, but he had to settle for par.

The 29-year-old made another par on the par-3 17th, but to close out his round - the world number 554 fired an untimely bogey to card a 71 for the day and finish his round on -17.

He starts the day two shots clear of the chasing pack tomorrow, playing on the Hills Course.
