"Division 1 is where we want to be" Aine O'Neill on Déise ladies

Aine O'Neill has been one of Waterford's standout players in this year's ladies football league.

The number seven scored 1-2 in the big win over Cork. Her best day in a white and blue shirt. "I'd say it was. It's not often that I find myself in front of goal. I was just delighted that it went on target to be honest!"

The Déise make the long trip to Salthill on St Patrick's Day for a relegation battle against Galway. Both sides are on three points at the bottom of Division 1 and the Kilrossanty Brickeys defender says that staying in the top flight is vital. "It's hugely important. Division 1 is definitely where we want to be, competing with the top teams. It will be a tough match on Sunday but we really do need to win it."

Aine's family helped her blossom into an inter county footballer. "My parents encouraged me from a young age. They always made time for a kickaround or a puckaround. My Dad is actually manager of the club at the minute so there's a huge family tradition there. At secondary school, I loved playing with the Friary. We had the likes of Lisa Hanrick and Angela Walsh who put so much of their time into training and coaching us. It's great to have those female role models to look up to."
