Ballygunner forward Dessie Hutchinson has been appointed as the new captain of the Waterford senior hurlers.
Peter Queally has announced his captain and vice-captain for the Déise, with Lismore’s Iarlaith Daly set to serve as vice-captain.
Hutchinson made his Waterford debut in 2020 - and was part of the team that made it to that year’s All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final.
He collected a National League winners’ medal in 2022, and has won six county titles, three Munster titles and an All-Ireland club medal representing Ballygunner.
The 27-year-old is currently preparing for this Sunday’s Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship Final against Sarsfields of Cork this Sunday - where he’ll be hoping to win a fourth provincial medal.
Daly also made his Déise senior debut in 2020 under the guidance of Liam Cahill.
The 24-year-old Lismore man was nominated for Young Hurler of the Year in the same season and has been a staple at the back for Waterford in recent campaigns.
Hutchinson’s first game as captain will be on Saturday January 4th when Waterford take on Cork in a challenge match at Fraher Field with the proceeds going to The Friends of Brian Greene & Waterford Hospice.
