Déise one point short of Tipp in final Tailteann Cup game

The season is over for the Waterford footballers after they suffered an agonising one-point defeat to Munster rivals Tipperary at a sundrenched Pairc Uì Chaoimh.

Tipp raced into an 8-point to 1 lead after 27 minutes with Jack Kennedy their star man; he ended the afternoon with 0-8.

Waterford responded well and hit 1-2 in quick succession with the goal coming courtesy of Conor Murray, a fine finish to the net after 31 minutes as Tipp held a 3 point lead at the break (0-10 to 1-4).

Murray top scored for Ephie Fitzgerald's men with 1-3.

Points from Jordan O'Sullivan and Conor Murray tied up proceedings by the 43rd minute, it was nip and tuck from there to the final whistle but it was the Premier men who held out for a hard-fought 0-17 to 1-13 victory.
