The Waterford ladies exited the All Ireland championship after a 1-12 to 2-4 quarter final loss to Galway at a rain lashed Pearse Park in Longford yesterday.

Aileen Wall fired two goals for Ciaran Curran's side but player of the match Tracey Leonard scored 1-5 as the maroon and white set up a Croke Park semi final against Connacht rivals Mayo on August 25.

The Tribeswomen led 1-6 to 1-4 at the break. Maria Delahunty and Michelle Ryan kicked two points each for Waterford before Wall buried the ball in the bottom corner. Six points without reply put Galway out of reach. Wall netted again on 46 minutes but it was Waterford's only score of the second period.
