The Waterford football team were beaten 2-14 to 0-13 by Antrim in Dundalk earlier today.
Goals either side of half-time from Odhrán Eastwood and centre back James McAuley were the crucial scores as the Saffrons prevailed against a battling Déise side.
Waterford reduced the deficit to a point midway through the 2nd half thanks to four superbly taken long range points through Jason Curray (who kicked a brace) along with Jack Mullaney and team captain Conor Murray.
However the loss of Shane Ahearne through what appeared to be a groin injury proved a big loss, especially around the middle third of the field as Antrim got on top in this sector and ultimately pushed on for victory.
The win wasn't enough to secure promotion, Wicklow won the Division 4 title by virtue of a 3 point win over neighbours Wexford, while Limerick will also be playing Division 3 in 2021 following their win away to Sligo.
Waterford ended with 14 men after Stevie Curry was shown a straight red card by Down referee Paul Faloon following an off the ball incident.
The game was originally set to be played in Ballymena and after the Waterford team conceded the game based on covid-19 concerns - the fixture was moved to the republic at late notice.
