Seven points from Player of the Match Denise Gaule guided Kilkenny to a 0-15 to 0-8 win over Waterford at a bright and breezy Walsh Park this afternoon.
All Star forward Beth Carton shot five points for the hosts but they failed to score for thirty minutes either side of the break.
Wind assisted Waterford led 6-4 after 23 minutes. Carton converted three frees while Lorraine Bray, Annie Fitzgerald and Kate Lynch also raised white flags.
Gaule and Ann Dalton took control of the contest for Kilkenny as the black and Amber hit nine unanswered points. Gaule finished with seven (five frees) while Dalton got three from play.
All Star Lorraine Bray took the fight to the Cats from number seven and Carton added two consolation frees. Fergal O'Brien's side face a must-win game at home to Limerick next Sunday.
