Waterford manager Davy Fitzgerald has issued a rallying call to Deise supporters at the beginning of 2024.

The Waterford senior hurlers got 2024 off to a winning start as they were eleven-point victors over Kerry in the Munster Hurling League last night.

Paudie Fitzgerald fired 1-9 while Jack Fagan and Jack Prendergast also hit the net as the Deise won out by 3-23 to 3-12.

Next up is a meeting with Tipperary at Fraher Field on Sunday.

Manager Davy Fitzgerald says he's working hard to make sure 2024 will be a memorable year for Waterford hurling. He had this message to anyone questioning the level of commitment from him and the squad.

"The amount of time I'm giving it is unreal", said Fitzgerald. "This is the message I would have for the general public out there - back us. Even if we lose one or two, stay with us - and stop throwing the toys out of the pram! Just stay with us. Let us try, and support us. Give us the best chance that we can to win."

"I always said that if in 2 or 3 years, I can't do this - then I'll give it to someone else, no problem", he emphasised. "I'll give it a fair shot, I can guarantee you that. If a base is negative, then that's gonna impact upon the team, management, the whole lot. Give us a chance and come out - we will be trying hard for you."

"I want to make this panel as strong as I can - I'm not where I need to be yet, but I am going to get there, so don't throw the toys out of the pram too early."

Fitzgerald is looking forward to the challenge ahead against the Premier.

"We're short a lot of bodies but do you know what? - I just want to go out and see them tear into it with all the stuff that we've done. They're a very good bunch of lads and they've put a lot into it over the last 5-6 weeks."
