Top-class performances from brothers Patrick and Colm Curran were instrumental in helping Dungarvan to a six-point win over Mount Sion in the senior hurling championship today.
Patrick hit 0-11 (0-7f) with brother Colm Curran registering 0-5 from play over the hour to help the Old Borough to a deserved victory and top seeding in the knock-out championship draw. Dungarvan’s reward for topping their group is a quarter-final against their local rivals Abbeyside next weekend. A mouth-watering game to look forward to.
Mount Sion who struggled for the majority of this game will face tough opposition as they must face the unbeaten Passage in their quarter-final tie next weekend.
This game lacked the intensity of a knock-out championship with both sides already safely in the quarter-finals. In an open first-half scores were plentiful at both ends but a goal just before the break from the impressive Michael Kiely (set up by Patrick Curran) gave Dungarvan the clear advantage on the scoreboard at the interval, 1-13 to 0-10.
Mount Sion did reduce the margin to a single goal down the home stretch mainly due to the accuracy of Martin O’Neill but never raised the green flag that they so desperately needed. Some excellent points from Patrick Curran, Colm Curran, and four from substitute Gavin Crotty were enough to see out the game for Dungarvan.
