Former Déise boss Derek McGrath is backing Cork to cause an upset in Sunday’s all Munster All Ireland hurling final against Limerick at Croke Park.
“I’m going to go against conventional wisdom. I just have a feeling that Cork are going to perform really well. If they can stick to their maxim of how they’re playing the game, which is a short, possession-based game, if Sean O’Donoghue can hold Aaron Gillane, if Niall O’Leary can go toe to toe with Peter Casey and if Eoin Cadogan can go toe to toe with Gearoid Hegarty, I have a feeling that Cork can do it. I think they’re coming to the boil nicely. The understated nature of their preparation will help them. As Kieran Kingston said during the week, there’s two teams in the final, only one can win it. I don’t think the pressure will weigh heavily on Limerick but I just have a feeling Cork are going to perform really well in the final. If they get all those things right, I have a funny feeling that Cork might spring a surprise.”
