The Waterford under 20 footballers suffered a 31 point loss to Cork in last night's Munster semi final at Clonakilty (5-23 to 0-7).
The Rebels kicked 5-20 from play and fourteen players got on the scoresheet to set up a provincial showdown against Kerry next Thursday.
Darragh Corcoran scored two early points for Waterford but three Cork goals in five minutes ended the contest by half time as the hosts led 3-12 to 0-2. Mark Cronin, Cathal O'Mahony, Damien Gore, Jack McCarthy and Colm O'Callaghan all raised green flags for the rampant Rebels. Corcoran, Billy Power, Sean Whelan-Barrett and Stephen Curry got consolation points in the second half.
Despite the heavy defeat, selector Willie McGrath said the team can still be proud of their efforts this summer. "We spoke to the lads in the dressing room afterwards and we told them 'forget about tonight, remember last Tuesday'. We upset the odds there, just remember that feeling. People were out hugging us and shaking our hands. It was amazing."
He thinks that there is a case for a Munster B championship. "We'll match Limerick, Clare or Tipperary. It's a different beast tonight. Cork are pushing for Munster and short odds for the All Ireland."
