Clonea will make the step up to the Senior hurling ranks for next season after they were crowned Intermediate County Champions in Fraher Field this afternoon, overcoming a gallant Clashmore/Kinsalebeg outfit in a well contested decider.

The sides were level at the interval, 1-6 apiece as Brian Ramsey for Clashmore and Ronan Cahill exchanged goals in the opening period.

Edmond O' Halloran and Billy Power were accurate from frees at the end of a tight and tense first half.

The second-half followed a similiar pattern as these two evenly matched sides traded scores, but Clonea did get on top in the final ten minutes

Edmond O' Halloran brought the sides level at 1-12 apiece entering injury time but it was the Eastern champions who finished strongly

Billy Power pointed a free to put Clonea back in front before the hard working Ciarán Power completed the scoring with an injury time goal after being teed up by Michael Curry

It ended, Clonea 2-13 Clashmore/Kinsalebeg 1-12 as Robbie Flynn hoisted the Tom Lannen Memorial Cup amid a scene of green and white.

Clonea manager Brian Greene told WLR Sport after the game, they made hard work of it, but said he was really proud of his charges, saying the hurt from last year drove them on.

Club Chairman Pat Hunt said it was a really proud day for the club, especially after losing to An Rinn in last year's decider.
