Clashmore / Kinsalebeg sneaked past Kilmacthomas 0-15 to 1-11 after extra time in a gruelling senior football championship play-off at Fraher Field last night.
The sides were level on nine occasions in normal time. Clashmore had Kieran Connery and Sam Fitzgerald sent off while Reece Power was dismissed for Kilmacthomas. It finished 0-12 to 1-9 at the end of the hour.
Extra time points from Brian O'Halloran, Brian Lynch and Tadhg De Burca sent Clashmore through to the quarter finals. Kealan Kiersey missed a Kilmac penalty in the first period.
Man of the match O'Halloran kicked five points (four from play) and said that they had to dig deep to make the last eight. The win secures their senior status for 2020. "It's the biggest football game of the year. The line is so thin: win you're in a quarter final, lose you're in relegation. No one wants relegation hanging over them. Everything from here is a bonus."
