County Limerick Charles Byrnes has had his license withdrawn for six months after Viking Hoard tested positive for a prohibited substance when pulled up in a race at Tramore over two years ago.

The decision was made by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board.

The now seven-year-old gelding won twice on the Flat for English Harry Dunlop before successful for Byrnes in a handicap hurdle at Killarney in the summer of 2018.

The trainer, who has enjoyed success at the Cheltenham Festival and is renowned for the shrewd placing of his horses to land many big handicaps, was also fined €1,000.
