New structures for the Waterford football and hurling championships were passed by delegates in Dungarvan on Monday night.

The senior football championship will be reduced from twelve teams to eight by 2024. Two teams will be relegated in 2022 and 2023. An all county premier intermediate football championship will be set up next year comprising six teams. The two teams relegated from senior and the two finalists from the Eastern and Western intermediate championships will enter the new competition.

An all county premier intermediate hurling championship will be established for 2023 with eight teams. These eight teams will be made up of the four semi finalists from the 2022 Eastern and Western intermediate championships. The county intermediate champions will be promoted to senior while the team relegated from the senior championship will move down to premier intermediate in 2023.

After an hour long debate, the football changes were passed by 36 votes to 10 while the hurling received 44 votes for and 4 votes against.

John Jackson (Ballyduff Upper) was re-elected as county treasurer at Monday's meeting. Michael Flynn (Gaultier) was appointed as Waterford minor football manager.
