Blues will travel to Athlone in FAI Cup

Waterford FC will face Athlone Town in the first round of the FAI Cup.

Athlone are currently in 6th position in the First Division.

They have played 15 games in the lower grade to date. They have won 6, lost 6 and drawn 3.

The last time Waterford played in Athlone was on Friday July 23rd, 2017 when John Martin scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 league victory.

The midlanders have a number of former Blues players in their squad including Kurtis Byrne, Garry Comerford and Derek Daly.

The game is expected to be played on Friday July 23rd, exactly four years to the day of the 6-1 league win at the same venue.

Elsewhere, Bohemians will travel to Munster Senior League side College Corinthians in the first round of the FAI Cup.

The draw, which was completed on RTE2fm by Paul Corry, will also see Treaty United face the FAI Cup holders Dundalk in their first match in the competition. SSE Airtricity First Division side Cork City will travel to Premier Division outfit Sligo Rovers whilst Galway United will travel to Tallaght Stadium to face Shamrock Rovers.

The draw will also see a number of non-league clubs progress to the second round of the competition with St. Mochtas' set to host Crumlin United one of four all non-league ties in the first round.

Dates and kick-off times will be confirmed in due course with all matches set to take place in the week ending Sunday, July 25.
