Derry City 2-0 Waterford FC
By Matt Keane
Having defeated Derry City 2-1 earlier in the season at the RSC Derry City gained revenge over the Blues at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Friday. The hosts took the lead from the penalty spot one minute before halftime when a dubious spot-kick was awarded by referee Rob Hennessy .
He adjudged that Tunmise Sobowale had pushed former Waterford player Walter Figueira in the back and Conor Clifford sent Brian Murphy the wrong way from the spot kick.
Worse was to follow for the visitors 12 minutes into the second half when Derry were awarded a second penalty when Robbie McCourt fouled Figueira inside the 18 yards box and again Conor Clifford left Brian Murphy helpless from 12 yards.

Waterford never recovered from the second penalty kick and their dream of European football next season has hit a bump on the road. A win against Shelbourne next Saturday at the RSC is a must to keep the European dream alive.
That said the Blues remain in third position following Shamrock Rovers 4-0 victory over fourth placed Sligo Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium. With twelve points left to play for (Waterford play Shelbourne and Dundalk at home and Cork City and Finn Harps away) it's still all to play for that coveted European place.
