Waterford FC fell to their second defeat of the week when they lost out to an organised Galway United side at Eamonn Deasy Park. In an entertaining game, the were beaten by 2 goals to one.
Keith Long made three changes to the side that lost on Monday with Ryan Burke returning after suspension, Eddie Nolan coming in for his first start since March and Shane Griffin returned.
However, it was another subpar opening half as Waterford failed to cope with the Galway intensity.
They fell behind on 34 minutes when David Hurley floated in a cross that fell to Ed McCarthy at the back post and he fired home off the far post.
It should have been two nil minutes later but Paul Martin saved from Francely Lomboto and then Conor Parsons and Shane Griffin were denied by a fine double save from Brendan Clarke five minutes before the break.
The Blues fell two behind on 68 minutes when Shane Griffin fouled Regan Donelon just inside the box and David Hurley stepped up to fire to the right-hand corner.
The lifeline came nine minutes from time when Niall O Keeffe fed Shane Griffin who then found Ronan Coughlan and he gave Clarke no chance.
Waterford tried to find the equaliser but Galway held firm to secure and important victory.
