Waterford FC 4
Cobh Ramblers 2
Ray Scott reports
Waterford FC’s perfect run under the temporary tutelage of Gary Hunt and David Breen continues thanks to a 4-2 win at home to Cobh Ramblers this evening.
Phoenix Patterson, Tunmise Sobowale, Louis Britton and Callum Stringer were all on target for the Blues, who came from behind twice to take the three points on offer at the RSC.
Cobh hadn’t read the script when they took the lead inside four minutes when former Blue Jack Larkin got behind the home side’s defence and fired past the diving Brian Murphy.
Waterford levelled things on thirty four minutes when Phoenix Patterson turned and fired a superb shot past Sean Barron from 25 yards - but their joy was short-lived as they fell behind just three minutes later. Larkin pounced again as he met a Luke Desmond cross and his downward header bounced under Murphy.
Waterford kept their composure and levelled the game six minutes after the restart when Roland Idowu headed the ball back behind the Cobh defence and Sobowale reacted quickest to poke the ball beyond the advancing Barron.
The home side finally went in front on 79 minutes when Louis Britton met Idowu’s cross and again his downward header bounced over Barron.
Substitute Callum Stringer added Waterford’s fourth with another stunning strike two minutes into injury time as Waterford took all three points on a final scoreline of 4-2.
