Carrick On Suir man Sam Bennett could be returning to his old team Bora-Hansgrohe at the end of this season.
The Deceuninck-QuickStep sprinter, who claimed the green jersey at last year's Tour De France looks likely to leave his current outfit, with team manager Patrick Lefevere revealing to La Gazzetta dello Sport that the team was not willing to match the offers for his services that have been proffered by other teams.
Bennett raced for Bora from 20140-2019, but always came up against his teammate Peter Sagan for selection in big races.
That issue may now be null and void, with speculation mounting that Sagan could be moving in the opposite direction to Quick-Step.
The former Irish National Champion was passed over for the Giro in 2019, when his then-teammate and German National Champion Pascal Ackermann was sent to Italy, but in another musical chairs scenario, Ackermann could be set to make the move to the UAE Team Emirates.
Teams are not permitted to announce their new singings until August 1st, but Lefevere latest disclosure to the Italian paper has kick-started the transfer rumours.
