Waterford have made a winning start to their Allianz National hurling league campaign following an exciting win over Cork in Walsh Park this afternoon.
It didn't look good after three minutes as the Rebels netted twice, thanks to strikers from Conor Lehane and Shane Kingston.
However the home side recovered well and grew into the game thanks to some fine scores from the Bennett brothers, Stephen and Kieran (who finished with sixteen points between them) and Jack Fagan.
A Patrick Curran goal gave Waterford a huge boost and they finished the half well to lead at the break by 1-13 to 2-8.
The Déise continued to work hard in the second-half and took the game to their opponents with Stephen Bennett and Curran hitting points.
Shane Kingston netted his second goal of the game heading into injury time as Cork pressed for an equaliser, they did have a couple of chances but to no avail as Liam Cahill's charges held on for a hard fought yet deserved win (1-24 to 3-17 the full-time score).
