Rathgormack booked their place in the Co. Senior football Championship semi-finals for the first time since 2005 after a hard fought Quarter-Final win over Gaultier in Kill this afternoon.
Ger Power's side put in a solid second half display to see off a gallant Gaultier outfit, the sides were level at the break, 1-14 to 0-7 with JJ Hutchinson netting for the Barony men.
A Stevie Curry goal helped Rathgormack into a 1-10 to 1-6 lead mid-way through the second half, before a second green flag from Conor Murray put the Green and Red in a great position and one they wouldn't relinquish.
Gaultier did come back into it with some late frees as Rathgormack resorted to cynical following, but the Comeragh side held out for the win and are in the hat for the semi-final draw later this evening.
Defending champions The Nire will put their title on the line when they face Western-rivals An Rinn in Fraher Field this evening.
The Ballymacarbry outfit haven't played competitively since July having already qualified for the last eight, while An Rinn recorded an easy win over Portlaw in the play-off round.
An Rinn manager Dave Towey says they're really looking forward to taking on the holders.
Nire selector Tom Guiry says they'll be aiming to get up to that competitive level once again.
Throw-in is at 7pm, and it'll be preceded by the relegation play-off between Brickey Rangers and Kilmacthomas @ 5:30pm.
On behalf of the commitee we’d like to inform you all that Reece Power & Sam Fitzgearld (Clashmore) have been reinstated with recommendation from Waterford county board and both players can return to doing what they do best and represent there clubs.
