Shane Lowry is the fifth Irish golfer to win the Open Championship.
The Offaly man's success has propelled him to 17th place in the world rankings.
He won at Royal Portrush with six shots to spare on Tommy Fleetwood and takes home a cheque for 1.7 million euro.
Unbelievable achievement from one of the most down to earth men you'll ever meet. The little town will be hopping for a month. We are all immensely proud of this young @Clara_gaa_club man.. @ShaneLowryGolf @colmcooper13 @MidlandsSport @referee34 @poggypig @TheOpen #TheOpen pic.twitter.com/j2E8l9Qdb8

Lowry says it was a special moment; "I think it's huge for Irish golf, I think it's big for Irish sport, I'm a huge sports fan and people in Ireland know that, I'm a big GAA man which is our Sport in Ireland and it's a very tight knit community and I'd say people watched golf today that never watched golf before!"

We'll have further reaction to Lowry's incredible victory on this evening's "On The Ball" Sports show just after 6 pm on WLR.
Meanwhile, Seamus Power crept inside the top 50 in the weather delayed Barbasol Championship on the PGA Tour yesterday.
With only two events left in the regular season, Seamus has drifted out to the mid 140s on the FedEx Cup standings. A crucial two weeks are now on the horizon for him in his quest to remain as a full playing member of the Tour in 2020.
Robert MacIntyre's debut season in the professional ranks simply goes from strength to strength.
With a tied 6th finish at the Open Championship he and his caddy Greg Milne are certainly riding the crest of a wave at the moment and are without doubt the toast of Scottish golf at the moment.
