Waterford hurling manager Peter Queally says that he will be without a dozen players for Sunday's Division 1B opener against Carlow.
Austin Gleeson, Tadhg De Burca, Stephen Bennett, Conor Prunty and Dessie Hutchinson are among those who will miss out.
Queally wants the new members of the panel to step up this weekend. "We're probably down the guts of twelve or thirteen fellas. We travelled light to Limerick last week, we only had 21 bodies but the lads that started. The lads that came on all contributed and all played well. This is a great opportunity for some of our younger fellas."
Austin Gleeson won't see action until the end of National League campaign. "It's a calf injury. Unfortunately, he was pushing too hard to come back and picked up a calf injury about two weeks ago. Hopefully, he'll be back running in the next week or two."
Despite a long injury list, Queally says that they are aiming for a top two finish in the league and promotion to Division 1A ."There's an opportunity for us to play a league final in Croke Park which is a huge incentive. The carrot is there. These are results related goals and it's important that we get the results to put ourselves in that position."
Carlow versus Waterford will be our George Corbett Skoda Big Match on Sunday. Live coverage starts at 1.45 with Kieran O'Connor and Gavin Whelan on commentary duty.
