Barry Coughlan is enjoying his new wing back role with Ballygunner this season.
The former Waterford full back made a seventy yard dash through the Sixmilebridge defence in Sunday's Munster quarter final. His shot was saved by Derek Fahy before Dessie Hutchinson finished it to the net.
"I just kept going and it opened up. I went to try and score; it was a crusty right handed shot. At least Dessie was there to clean it up. Thank god we got a goal out of it in the end! I would have been sickened!"
He has got a new lease of life at number seven. "I love playing full back as well but I get a bit of running in the legs and I feel like I'm contributing a bit more."
Coughlan is no stranger to defence splitting solo runs. He got a crucial goal against De La Salle in a county quarter final six years ago. "Sometimes it just opens up for you and you can see fellas sticking with their men. The likes of Dessie were doing so well, their men were up beside them so I was able to go straight in. It's a once in a century kind of thing!"
