Maurice Shanahan has confirmed to WLR Sport that he has been told he will not part of Liam Cahill's Waterford panel for 2020.
It had been understood that the Lismore man was to retire from inter-county hurling, however Maurice has stated that's not the case and he'll speak on the issue this week.
The Irish Examiner reports that 2019 captain, Noel Connors was also told that he won't be be part of the Déise for next season.
Speaking to WLR Sport after his recent appointment, Waterford manager Liam Cahill said the panel will be open-ended; "I would believe my panel will always be open-ended, anyone showing form with their club will be considered, I would have liked to have seen more of the club games in Waterford to see what was out there".
John Forgarty, GAA writer with the Irish Examiner reports; "The pair were among a number of players who were phoned on Saturday evening by the Tipperary native to inform them they would not be part of his plans for the 2020 season".
John Fogarty wrote that Connor's "absence is all the more startling given Tadhg de Burca is set to be on the sidelines for a significant part of the 2020 season as he recovers from a cruciate injury".
"Last week it was confirmed Cahill and coach Michael Bevans would be assisted by former players Stephen Frampton and Stephen Molumphy".
