The Irish Examiner is reporting this evening that Tipperary GAA have formally asked Waterford manager Liam Cahill to become their senior hurling boss.
It is believed that the approach was made to Cahill last week.
Waterford GAA's County Board have also been in discussions with Cahill about remaining at the helm in the Deise. He has guided Waterford to a Munster Final, an All-Ireland Final and an All-Ireland Semi-Final in two years in charge.
The 43-year-old, who won an All-Ireland with Tipp' in his playing days, guided the Premier to multiple Munster and All-Ireland titles at underage level before coming to Suirside.
Liam Cahill and his right-hand man, coach Michael Bevans, are expected to come to a decision later this week. Tipperary and Liam Sheedy parted ways earlier this month after defeat at the hands of Waterford and Cahill in the All-Ireland Quarter-Final.
Tipperary hope the lure of taking over their native county will be enough for them to switch allegiances for the 2022 season and beyond.
John Fogarty reports that there is a strong belief in Tipperary that Cahill and Bevans will be able to shorten an expected transitional period as they have done with a Waterford team that didn’t win a championship game in the two years prior to them taking over.
