Today's (Friday, Sept 29) Waterford at 1 lunchtime news, two men are set to appear in court following the biggest drug seizure in the history of the state, former All Ireland winning hurler has appeared in court charged with fraud and forgery offenses, and another European athletics title for West Waterford athlete.

  • Two men have been charged in connection with the drug seizure of over €157m worth of cocaine, which was found in a bulk cargo ship off the coast of Cork on Wednesday. The men from the Ukraine and UK are due to appear in court today. Gardaí has said this is the biggest drug haul in the history of the state, and the ship is currently being forensically examined in Cork Port.
  • Former Kilkenny All Ireland winning hurler, DJ Carey, has been charged with 21 fraud and forgery offenses and has been sent forward for trial before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
  • West Waterford's, Joe Gough, has received another European athletics title this week.
