A West Waterford man who owns the oldest grown tree ever tested in Britain or Ireland says he's hoping it will eventually go on display somewhere.

Tom Joe Murphy discovered the 3,500-year-old bog oak when he was draining part of his farmland, on the banks of the River Bride, near Knockanore in West Waterford.

He decided to have it tested and sent a cutting to Queen's University Belfast where it was examined by Dr David Brown.

He discovered that the tree was 605 years old when it fell, making it the oldest grown tree in the British Isles.
