Listen Back - Ceolta Déise live in Touraneena

Ceolta Déise live in Touraneena. On this week’s Ceolta Déise, Míchéal Ó Drisleáin traveled to Touraneena in West Waterford where traditional Irish music, song, and dance are very much alive.

Monnie Hallahan and John Kearns recount the glory years of set dancing with Sliabh gCua and the many All-Ireland titles won down through the years.  Sliabh gCua Chairman JP Fitzpatrick also discusses the importance of Scór and how the club strives to promote the culture, along with hurling and football.

Míchéal is joined on the night by Sarah O Gorman, Martin Mannion, and Joseph Mannion. Joseph and Sarah are members of the All-Ireland winning Céilí Band, Taobh na Mara, and they discuss a hectic few weeks of gigs to come.

On singing duty were the Coffey family; Emma, Dearbhla, and Stephen, who performed some beautiful Jimmy McCarthy songs, including, Bright Blue Rose and No Frontiers.

The Sliabh gCua area has produced some of the best poets and writers in the Irish language, one of those being Pádraig Ó Mileadha, who composed a song praising the beauty of the Sliabh gCua area while in exile working in Wales.  His piece, Sliabh Geal gCua, was played on flute by  Eimear Hallahan and sung by Tomás Flynn.
