7-year-old Rob Grace-Power, from Waterford, and his autism assistance dog Aggie, have been announced as the ambassadors for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland (AADI) in this year's Woodie's Heroes 2024 Campaign fundraising initiative.

The Woodie’s Heroes 2024 campaign, running from now until 10th August, aims to raise essential funds for four Irish children's charities: Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Children’s Health Foundation, ISPCC Childline, and Down Syndrome Ireland.

Rob, who is autistic, has faced significant challenges, including sensory issues and safety concerns. His family's life took a transformative turn when Aggie, a specially trained autism assistance dog, joined them in January last year. Since then, Aggie has provided Rob with the stability and comfort needed to manage his sensory issues, resulting in a calmer and happier home.

Rob's mother Anna expressed her gratitude for the support they have received: "Since Aggie joined our family, Rob's meltdowns have virtually stopped, and he is now able to self-regulate with Aggie's help. This has brought a sense of peace to our household, and we can finally do things collectively as a family. Aggie has truly transformed our lives."

Their commitment to inclusivity and providing the right support has been invaluable, ensuring Rob is included in all activities, tailoring their approach to meet his unique needs. This support extends beyond the classroom, with staff and students alike showing understanding and compassion, which has made a significant difference in Rob's daily life.
