On The Saturday Cafe, Maria spoke to Waterford woman Liz Murphy, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 13 years of age.
This interview was prompted by the Coronation Street storyline featuring the character of Summer, who is struggling with coming to terms with having the condition, and the inevitable curtailments it brings to a 17 year old's life, when all she wants to do is be "normal."
Liz manages the Facebook page Waterford Diabetes Support.
In the course of her conversation with Maria, she also credits a Waterford lady, Mrs. O Brien from Congress Place, with saving her life when she became ill in a shop.
