In the latest Hot Desk on Nov 17, I spoke to people about numerous issues including the future of driving in Ireland, how a Waterford company is helping clothes brands keep sizes consistent, and why people might consider signing up to a part-time course at WIT.

How do the public feel about electric cars?

Only one-third of drivers plan to buy another standard petrol or diesel car, according to a recent poll by AA Ireland, but most of those who change will choose a hybrid rather than a fully electric car.

  • The majority of drivers (65%) say they won’t buy a traditional petrol/diesel car again
  • More than 2 in 5 current petrol/diesel owners plan to buy a hybrid next
  • Current EV owners overwhelmingly plan to stay with EVs, and owning a hybrid car makes a driver more than twice as likely to pick an EV next time
  • The most common reasons for not choosing an EV are the price, the range and access to chargers.
  • Over three quarters would support increased government grants to buy EVs
I discussed these findings with Lauren Beehan of AA Ireland

Shana Chu of STYL.wrap spoke to The Hot Desk

Waterford-based fashion software platform STYL.wrap has been crowned ‘Best New Start’ company at the Munster regional final of the 2021 InterTradeIreland Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition.
The company is now through to the national final on Thursday November 25th.

WIT hosting open evening on part-time courses

Neil Quinlan, head of Lifelong Learning at WIT joined me to discuss an upcoming open evening about part-time evening courses for adults, happening on Tuesday November 23rd.
Many of these courses are funded through Springboard. He says there are numerous employer incentives to fund an employee's return to education.
