Pentimenti 25th Anniversary On Showtime

Pentimenti 25th Anniversary On Showtime.

This week 25 years ago saw a very special show take to the stage in Waterford. 'Pentimenti' was Bryan Flynn's first original musical.

It told the story of a Jewish family during the Second World War. Notably, the musical avoided retelling the horrors of the holocaust.

This lovely piece of nostalgia, rediscovered by WLRs keeper of the Archives Ray C features an interview with Billy McCarthy, Bryan Flynn and Damien Slattery. The interview took place on the opening day of the musical. At that point the show had played two previews the previous day.

A clearly emotional Bryan Flynn related to Billy how proud he was of the production and of Stage Fright. It was a co-production with Red Kettle and cost just shy of 100k to put on stage.

After the interview is a song from the cast album of Pentimenti. If you listen closely to the recording of the song you will hear some very familiar Waterford voices.

To this day it remains as one of very few original Waterford Musicals. When Pentimenti took to the stage it was the first Waterford composed show since William Vincent Wallace was in his Maritana hey-day.
