Pat McEvoy looks back on the Greenroom Awards

Pat McEvoy looks back on the Greenroom Awards on last weeks Showtime.

Waterford's arts community celebrated diverse achievements at a buzzworthy event in the historic Theater Royal. The Waterford News & Star Green Room Awards celebrate artistic excellence.  As always there was lively anticipation and recognition from the assembled Arts Community.

From large-scale productions like Stagemad's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and Waterford Musical Society's "My Fair Lady" to smaller, individual performances, there was something for everyone. Brilliant young violinist Nataliya O'Neill was the first-ever musician to win the Best Youth Performance Award.

Waterford actress and playwright Katie Honan's debut play, "How to Fall Flat on Your Face," won both the Best New Play and Best Actress awards. Jack Cunningham Productions was also recognized. It won Best Choreographer for Anything Goes and Best Female Performance, and Best Supporting Actress for their production of "Steel Magnolias."

During the ceremony, Mount Sion Choir won the People's Choice Award. Playwright Hannah Carberry received the Bursary Award. Stagemad took home the Outstanding Artistic/Theatrical Event of the Year award for their outdoor production of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream" at the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens in Tramore.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Betty Bible Mulcahy. Betty is a pioneering choreographer in Waterford who paved the way for dance in musical theatre and Irish dancing. She's also a four-time All-Ireland Tops winner and teacher of multiple Irish dancing champions. Betty Mulcahy's contributions to the arts in Waterford were celebrated with great enthusiasm.
