Listen to a Showtime Oscars Movie Score Special

Listen to a Showtime Oscars Movie Score Special. It's awards season. The biggest of them all is the Academy Awards in early March.

Every year we take a quick look at the nominees in the good company of Andrew Holden. This year we decided to be a bit different and do a longer in-depth online special as well as a quick one for broadcast.

So - if you're a fan of movie soundtracks grab a tea or coffee and kick back.

We talk about the nominees this year -

  • Indiana Jones and The Dial Of Destiny by the Maestro himself John Williams.
  • Poor Things by first time nominee Jerskin Fendrix
  • American Fiction by Laura Karpman
  • Killers of the Flower Moon by Robbie Robertson
  • Oppenheimer by Ludwig Göransson

As well as talk we play some music from each soundtrack to give you a feel for each one.

Before we even get into that though there's always time to talk about the great John Williams and other legendary composers. We chat about what is a movie score, the transportive effect of a movie score. We even chat about how a simple song underscored our childhood and some of our earliest memories.
