Listen Back to Stephen Mackey on Showtime. Stephen is the musical director for the SETU Summer Proms end of year concert.

The SETU Orchestra is proud to present their Summer Proms concert. It takes place in Holy Cross Church in Tramore this Thursday, May 23 rd . Under the baton of  Stephen Mackey, they will present a diverse programme, featuring a number of soloists, Toucan, and a new composition by SETU lecturer Phil Collins.

Beethoven’s dark and dramatic Coriolan Overture opens the evening. This is followed by Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat major with soloist Ed O’Neill. Sasha Keane joins the orchestra as soloist in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No.1, her third appearance with the SETU Orchestra, previously performing concerti by Beethoven and Shostakovich. Phil Collins Jazz Trio will join the orchestra and perform Collins’ newly written ‘Bucolic’, a fusion of jazz and Irish traditional, featuring saxophone and violin as soloists with orchestra.

The programme then turns to a lighter, modern style. Hayley Tyrrell and Aine Maloney join the orchestra to perform a selection from ‘Little Women’. Local band TOUCAN close out the evening with ‘Hey Laura’, ‘Dandelion Girl’, and ‘Gold’.
