Listen Back to Nick Kavanagh on Showtime
Listen Back to Nick Kavanagh on Showtime. Nick Kavanagh and Curious State Theatre Company are the new artists in residence in Theatre Royal.
He replaces Jamie Beamish who recently completed his year in residence.
The performer, director, writer, and tutor hailing from Waterford will spend the year working at the Theatre on exciting projects for Curious State, a company he founded in 2016.
Much of this site-specific work will be influenced by the new urban biodiversity garden at Theatre Royal. This aligns with both the theater's and Curious State's "green arts" initiatives.
Some of the planned highlights include creating "climate conscious" workshops and theater productions. This will engage theater professionals, local primary and secondary schools, and SETU students.
Additionally, the residency will include a research project that explores the extensive history and archives of Theatre Royal to create a new theater performance.
Nick's goal is to use Theatre Royal as an incubation studio, testing new methods and fostering relationships with regional creatives while creating climate conscious work. We aim to reduce our carbon footprint while reflecting and researching new ways of working.
The residency at Theatre Royal provides a crucial refuge for Curious State post-pandemic. It offers a valuable opportunity to regain work rhythm and rekindle creativity by setting up in the heart of the city.
