Listen back to Deirdre Dwyer on Showtime
Listen back to Deirdre Dwyer on Showtime, where she discusses her work as one of the founders of Shakespeare Squared. Last year, they presented the stunning 'Twelfth Night,' and this year they are excited to present 'Unrehearsed Scenes from Shakespeare.'
They are thrilled to collaborate with Simon Purse, a leading expert in the UK on Shakespeare’s First Folio performance method. Simon’s approach is based on the theory that, in Shakespeare’s time, actors didn’t receive a full script but instead worked from Parts (a Cue Script).
With limited time for rehearsal, actors primarily prepared privately, leading to performances that came together in a spontaneous, semi-improvised manner.
Simon is leading workshops with local actors using these original Shakespearian practices. After just five days, the courageous performers will be ready to present unrehearsed scenes from some of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays, live before an audience.
For the first time on the Theatre Royal stage, the actors will perform these scenes on Thursday night, without having worked together beforehand.
Tune in to hear Deirdre share extensive background information about the project—it sounds truly intriguing!
Tickets are still available for this unique performance.
