Megan Nolan joins Geoff On the Fringe.

Waterford novelist, Megan Nolan, returns to her home turf next week for events at
Carrickphierish Library and the Book Centre to celebrate the launch of her latest and widely
acclaimed novel, Ordinary Human Failings.
Born and raised in Ballybeg and a former pupil of the Ursuline Convent, Megan left Ireland
for London in 2015 to pursue a career in journalism and creative writing. Since then her
essays, columns and reviews have been published by the New York Times, Sunday Times,
New Statesman, The Guardian, The White Review and Winter Papers amongst others.
Her debut novel Acts of Desperation was published by Jonathan Cape and Little, Brown in
2021 and was the recipient of a Betty Trask Award, short-listed for the Sunday Times Young
Writer of the Year Award, and long-listed for the Dylan Thomas Prize and the International
Dublin Literary Award. To date, Acts of Desperation has been published in thirteen
languages.
Last month her second novel, Ordinary Human Failings was launched in London to
sensational reviews in the Irish and British Press. Set in Waterford and London in the 1970s
and 1990s, Nolan’s novel was described by The Guardian, as “a subtle, accomplished and
lyrical study of familial and intergenerational despair; a deeply tender book about quiet
lives”.
Megan will be at Carrickphierish Library on Thursday next, August 17 th , at 7pm for an In
Conversation event with Senior Executive Librarian, Mary Conway. Megan will also read
from and sign copies of her new book at what is a free event but for which booking is
essential on 051 849696. On the following night, Friday August 18 th at 6.30pm in the Book
Centre, Megan will do a second In Conversation, this time with Waterford Writers Weekend
director, Eimear Cheasty. This is also a free event and all are welcome for what is sure to be a
warm welcome home for our distinguished local writer.
