Tallow forward Tommy Ryan is the August winner of the WLR Granville Hotel GAA Award.

The former county man finished as top scorer in the county senior hurling championship with 2 goals and 47 points.

He shot an impressive 2-11 against Abbeyside in Round 3.

Ryan has just finished his 16th year of senior hurling with his club where he has played two county finals.

"Surprised really first of all - I thought it was someone messing with me, then when I realised I was proud and happy to receive it on behalf of the Tallow team"

Ryan's scoring in the relegation play-off was instrumental in his club's survival in the senior ranks when he hit nine points against Dunhill. He says that the overwhelming feeling was relief at the end of the campaign.

“Sometimes when you lose a couple of games in a row it can be a hard thing to come out of. Maybe we lost a bit of confidence and then it became hard to win but we regrouped coming into the last game and luckily we got a good performance in the second half in particular."

Tommy has been speaking to WLR's Tomás McCarthy, who began by asking him for his reaction when he got the call to say he'd picked up his second monthly award.
