Waterford and Ballygunner star Peter Hogan is the winner of the September WLR/Granville Hotel monthly GAA Award.

Peter played a starring role at wing forward as the Gunners completed a record-breaking ten county titles in a row.

Hogan scored 1-10 from play in the 2023 championship, including 1-2 against De La Salle on county final day.

This is Peter’s first monthly award.

Speaking to WLR Sport in the Granville, Hogan was delighted to pick up the award.

“Its always nice to get a bit of individual recognition. But at the end of the day, we got over the line in the County Championship and that was the most important thing for us.”

The Gunners will march on with the aim of defending their Munster crown next month. They face Sarsfields of Cork in the quarter-finals, and providing they come through that test, it’s on to a rematch with Na Piarsaigh fro Limerick.

Hogan was on the field for both the Munster for the last two Munster wins, beating Ballyea (2022) and Kilmallock (2021), he knows they're in for another tough challenge with Sars in November.

“You only have to look at a couple of games in the Cork Championship to realise the quality of the opposition up there. No team wins Cork by chance. You could see from their county final that they were very hungry and they’re going to bring a massive challenge in a couple of weeks’ time. We’re conscious of that, but looking forward to it as well.”

The reigning Munster Champions will undoubtedly have a target on their backs once again with anyone they face hoping to take a valuable scalp for their belts. Hogan is all too aware of that danger but tells WLR Sport that they will be “looking to progress again, but at the end of the day it’s very much a ‘next game’ mentality and getting over the line and getting a performance against Sars.”
