The Abbeyside/Ballinacourty defender is in her ninth season with Waterford and proudly wore the vice-captains armband in 2023.

Dunford was the only Waterford player named on the “Team of the League” for 2023 following impressive performances against Kerry, Cork, Mayo & Donegal, while also offering her ever-reliable services in their stand-out win over the All-Ireland Champions, Meath.

Rated as one of the tightest markers in the country Dunford never shirked her defensive duties throughout the league, and still contributed with a stellar point against Galway – a game that saw the Déise kick just five in all.

Dunford won an All-Ireland intermediate title with Waterford in 2015 and added Division 2 and Division 3 medals to her collection. She was nominated for an All-Star in 2017.

This is her first Granville Hotel & WLR monthly award.

Waterford boss Pat Sullivan heaped praise on Dunford ahead of the provincial opener with Kerry saying, “She does it in training every night of the week and every game we play. Her ability but more importantly her leadership is top class. Certain players get awards and it changes them. Megan has never changed from Under 14 to Under 16 to where she is now. It's a recognition of the work she does off the field and the work she does on the field every day. She could get an award every day she plays because she never has a bad game."

Megan’s year was cut short following injury in the Munster Championship clash with Kerry at Fraher Field. She left the field in the first half of play and is expected to miss out on the remainder of the year with what is reported to be a serious knee injury.

She has been speaking with WLR Sport's Nigel Kelly.
