On Monday's Déise Today, Maria heard from Richie Roberts, a local instructor about the Waterford Driving Instructors Association.

Maria heard how the group represents over 20 instructors locally, and that there had been a similar group in Waterford in the past. Speaking to Maria, Richie explained why they wanted to form one again:

Working as a group makes us a lot stronger in many many ways, we're not competing with one another and we've more influence as a group

Maria heard how the group recently successfully campaigned to the RSA for improved road marking and road signage, particularly in areas containing test routes. The benefits for all road users can be seen in the many newly renewed lines and junctions throughout the city, they say.

The interview coincided with the publication of an AA Ireland survey of over 5,000 motorists, showing 16% of respondents think parking signage in their area needs to be improved, as fines are set to increase from February 1st.

 Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan signed regulations in January, which doubles parking fines for those who are caught parking on footpaths, cycle lanes and bus lanes from €40 to €80.
