The general manager of University Hospital Waterford (UHW) says every discipline in the hospital is under pressure now.
Grace Rothwell has been speaking to Déise Today as a visitor ban was implemented at UHW yesterday (Wednesday).
There has been an outbreak of Covid in three of their wards and this, coupled with the huge numbers of Wexford patients coming to their Emergency Department, has left the hospital extremely stretched.
Ms Rothwell says there were 41 admissions to the ED on Tuesday night alone, which is the worst she has ever experienced at UHW.
However, while they are under significant pressure, she is still encouraging anyone who is in need of emergency care, to come to the hospital and they will be seen in order of the severity of their condition.
