A young Tramore woman has shared her experience with cervical cancer in her twenties, in a bid to help raise awareness amongst other women her age.

Cathy Linehan, a mother of two, has been speaking to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today about her story, to coincide with Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.

After undergoing her very first routine smear test in November 2020, Cathy was told that HPV and abnormal cells were found.

She was later diagnosed with stage one cervical cancer and in June 2021, underwent a hysterectomy, aged only 27.

Thankfully, the surgery was a success and later tests showed she was clear of cancer.

She said it was thanks to her smear that her cancer was caught early and treatable.

She also spoke to Damien about the amazing network of support she had including her fiance, her two lovely sons and her own family, who had helped her through her tough time.
