The annual Thomas Francis Meagher Tricolour celebrations take place in Waterford City this weekend.
Running from Friday to Sunday, the three days will see a book launch, a free historic lecture series, a gala dinner and a flag raising ceremony.
The festival usually happens in March but this year starts on July 1st, the date of Meagher's death.
About Thomas Francis Meagher
Thomas Francis Meagher lived from 1823 to 1867.
He was a gallant Irish man who was willing to give up his life for the sake of freedom and equality. He spoke out against the oppressive regime in Ireland at the time and called for all Irish people to stand up together to overcome it.
He captured his dream for freedom and unity in our national flag.
He unveiled the Irish flag for the first time at 33 the Mall in Waterford in 1848.
