Locating the headquarters of the new SETU in Waterford city 'makes sense' but is ultimately a matter for the Governing Body.
That's according to Tanaiste and Minister for Enteprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar who was in studio for 'Deise Today' with Damien Tiernan this morning (Friday).
The Tanaiste is on a day-long visit to Waterford, meeting Chamber of Commerce members in the city and Dungarvan and also visiting Dunhill Ecopark.
In WLR this morning, he was asked - during a wide-ranging interview with Damien Tiernan - his view on the controversial headquarters issue.
He said he agreed with the "overall sentiment" previous expressed by Minister Simon Harris that it would be "bonkers, mad and bizarre" for the HQ to be anywhere other than Waterford.
This was given the National Spatial Plan being clear on Waterford's designated as a city of regional development.
But the Tanaiste also said it was ultimately a matter for SETU's governing authority - and that the Government believes in autonomy for universities and schools.
