Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris was in Waterford today and paid a visit to Déise Today, where he spoke to Damien live in studio.
During the course of the interview, Minister Harris confirmed the former President and Provost of Trinity College Dr Patrick Prendergast will take the role on the new Governing Body, which will also include Jim Bergin, the CEO of Glanbia Ireland, and Ruth Beadle, Head of Insulins Manufacturing Cluster at Sanofi.
Minister Harris, when quizzed about where the new university headquarters would be, said it would be "mad, bonkers and bizarre" not to put it in Waterford.
He also revealed commercial negotiations are ongoing to secure the former Waterford Crystal site as part of the planned expansion of the technological university.
